Researchers, medical professionals, policymakers, industrial actors, retailers and consumers are in the chain of responsibility of fighting ‘globesity’. In The Netherlands, 49,2 % of adults are overweight and 14,2 % are obese; of children under eighteen 13,6 % are overweight and 2,7 % are obese (RIVM, 2016).
Obesity is a strong predictor for developing type 2 diabetes. Obesity and diabetes type 2 are caused by genetic, medical and lifestyle factors, including unhealthy diet and lack of exercise. This panel session will tackle the problem from the perspective of personalized prevention and treatment, health economics and policy and public private collaboration.
The session closes with a panel discussion with:
• Marije Poot-Reijnders (Projectmanager, gemeente Rotterdam)
• Patrick van Luijk (Topsporter/ondernemer, BioCheck),
• Hans Zengerink (Bariatrisch en oncologisch chirurg, Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland)
