Advances in Vitro Models for Human Safety Assessment
Toxys is a biotech company that develops innovative assay for animal-free safety testing of novel pharmaceuticals, chemicals, cosmetics and food ingredients. Our patented ToxTracker assay is used worldwide by industry and is currently evaluated for inclusion in regulatory safety testing. ToxTracker is offered as a service by Toxys and major CROs (under license), but is also available for in-house testing. To accelerate growth, Toxys is setting up a laboratory in the US. Toxys is developing several new assays for chemical safety testing and is preparing the launch of a unique stem-cell based assay for embryo toxicity assessment.
Giel started his career as scientist in genetic toxicology at the Leiden University Medical Center. During this period, he has been instrumental in the development of the ToxTracker assay.
In 2014, Giel obtained pre-seed financing to start Toxys and to bring the ToxTracker assay to the market. In 2016, he attracted various investors that allowed Toxys to setup her own laboratory at the Leiden Bio Science Park. As CEO of Toxys, he worked to develop the company into an internationally recognised contract research organisation (CRO) in genetic toxicology and chemical safety testing for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and chemical industry.
