Koen Verhoef

Manager of the Technology Transfer Office, NKI-AVL

Koen Verhoef is the head of the Technology Transfer Office of the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI-AVL). Prior to his appointment at NKI-AVL, he worked as a business developer/IP specialist within the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) of VU University and VU University medical centre (VUmc) in Amsterdam and before that as a technology transfer manager with MRC Technology in London.

Until May 2014, Koen was member of the Board of ASTP-Proton, the European Professional Association for Technology Transfer.
Koen studied Biology at VU University in Amsterdam (1993) and went on to earn a PhD in Medicine from the University of Amsterdam (1999). During his post-doctoral scientific career he received two EMBO fellowships which allowed him to perform research at the University of Heidelberg (1998-1999) and at Oxford University (2000-2001).
In 2001, Koen Verhoef started as a Technology Transfer manager with MRC Technology, the commercialisation company associated with the Medical Research Council in London, UK. In 2003 he moved back to the Netherlands where he founded the Technology Transfer Office at VUmc and subsequently at VU University.
Koen Verhoef published more than 20 papers in peer reviewed scientific journals and is named as an inventor on a bundle of related patents/patent applications.
