Innovation for Health - Shaping the future of healthcare

Martijn Busstra

Urologist, Erasmus MC

Session

11:30 - 12:45
The future of specialized treatment centers: from competition to collaboration

Martijn Busstra became an academic urologist in the Erasmus MC in 2006. Together with Professor Chris Bangma he performed radical prostatectomies and soon they started doing this less invasive: first by conventional laparoscopy and since 2009 by robot-assisted surgery. In 2017 it became clear that centralization of prostate cancer care had to go one step further: All radical prostatectomies had to be performed by a limited number of expert surgeons and during the operation pathologists should be able to perform frozen section analysis of the surgical margins. In 2018 This final step has been made: The Anser prostate operation center has officially started.
