Dr. Ruben Kok studied Microbiology at the University of Amsterdam. He received his PhD in bacterial genetics in 1995 and followed his scientific career at Yale University, Gist Brocades and Plant Research International. In 2005, dr. Kok was appointed managing director of the Netherlands Bioinformatics Centre (NBIC). Later, with several colleagues in the field, Ruben co-founded DTL, the Dutch Techcentre for Lifesciences and became its first director. Meanwhile DTL connects over 60 public and private organisations in a national life science technology expertise platform. DTL promotes access to high-end technology ‘hotels’, and stimulates research data stewardship based upon the FAIR principles.
