Value-based healthcare: improving access to innovation
Value-based healthcare is a movement which is in the process to bring this transition from volume to outcomes and we can find this transition all over the world. Particularly in the Netherlands we can find many good examples of healthcare professionals, hospitals, health insurers, and pharmaceutical compagnies working alone or together to bring this change. To focus more on quality of life and what matters to patients. Another challenge we are facing is access to innovation; news about innovative therapies is often dominated by concerns with costs instead of the possibilities these innovation bring. This could lead to a situation in which we are no longer treating patients according to the latest insights from science. As a result we are not delivering the best possible outcomes for patients.
The Vereniging Innovatieve Geneesmiddelen, is the industry Association for the Dutch branches of innovative pharmaceutical companies, has made value-based healthcare one of the pillars of its policy. We believe that by using the ideas of value-based healthcare we could improve access to innovations. During this workshop we will hear opinions from various stakeholders and we want to hear your opinions on using outcomes in healthcare as driver of innovation.
