Innovation for Health - Shaping the future of healthcare

Vladan Ilic

General Practitioner, Westerdokters

Vladan Ilic, MD GP, graduated in Medicine at University of Amsterdam in 1998. After acquiring working experience in different surgery departments in the Academic Hospital in Amsterdam he decided to continue his career as a General Practitioner. Directly after the specialization as a Family Physician (2004) he started a group practice in Amsterdam under the name Medisch Kwartier de Oude Houthaven. From the very beginning this practice became a bottom-up living lab and an innovative breeding place for the Primary Care in Amsterdam.
He is the co-founder of the Regional Organization of the General Practitioners in Amsterdam (ROHA).
In 2016 he started a new project - General Practice Westerdokters - with the ambition to fully digitalize and transform Primary Care. Westerdokters totally transformed the classic model and reinvented the communication between patient and doctor leading paradoxically to a more personal and tailor made care model. Currently Westerdokters are seen as the most innovative Primary Care Practice in the Netherlands. We see ourselves as the missing link in the AI robotized future of Medicine.

The Future is here - a pragmatically practical practice program
What would you do if you would get an assignment to reinvent Primary Care in 2018 without the burden of past experience? Combine this question with a Dutch no-nonsense mentality and you get General Practice Westerdokters in Amsterdam.
In 2016 Westerdokters started with an ambitious plan to radically digitalize Primary Care and to bring doctor and patient together again.
Today we proudly announce that more than 85% of patients are registered as a user of the platform and that we do around 60% of patient contacts online. We have no reception, no large expensive buildings, no complicated hardware, no phone exchange. What we do have is lots of time for patients.
Tomorrow we are planning to definitely democratize Primary Care and put the patient in the lead.
This journey is the theme of this presentation.
